Christos Veronis (Mayor of Mykonos):
The approval of funding for the Waste Recovery and Recycling Facility in Mykonos is a historic development for our island . It provides a definitive solution to an environmental problem that troubled us for decades and paves the way for a new era in waste management.
This is a state-of-the-art facility for full processing of recyclables, organics, and residuals, with energy recovery
.
My warm thanks to the South Aegean Region, Regional Governor George Hatzimarkos, and the South Aegean Waste Management Authority (FODSA) officials.
I thank all the competent Ministers and bodies who supported and approved this effort.
Mykonos is acquiring infrastructure that protects the environment and public health, ensuring a better quality of life for residents and visitors.
As the Municipal Authority, we actively support the implementation of the project so it can move forward quickly and efficiently.
Today we are taking a big step forward, with respect for future generations and for our island.
It is noted that three facilities were approved for the islands of Mykonos, Syros, and Paros, with a total cost of approximately €200 million.
