"Narrating and Recording the Art of Dry Stone Walling" | Mykonos 2023-24 within the framework of the Cycladic Identity Initiative by the Museum of Cycladic Art

We invite you to the Dry Stone Walling Pilot School, an action of the program “Narrating and Recording the Art of Dry Stone Walling” by the Municipal Public Benefit Enterprise for Environment, Education and Development of Mykonos (KDEPPAM), implemented with funding from the Museum of Cycladic Art’s Cycladic Identity initiative. The Pilot School will begin on Friday, April 19 with presentations on the art of dry stone walling and will continue on Saturday, April 20 with practical training involving traditional craftsmen and young artisans. The action will conclude on Sunday, April 21 with the screening of Yannis Spiliopoulos’ film “Stone and Time: The Dry Stone Walls of Kythnos”.
The “Narrating and Recording the Art of Dry Stone Walling” program aims to create an open and continuously updated website documenting dry stone walls and their traditional construction method, presenting older archival material (photographs, archives, sketches) and recording the remaining master craftsmen (video, audio recording). One of the program’s actions is the organization of the Dry Stone Walling Pilot School with the participation of traditional craftsmen and young artisans, from April 19 to 21. The program is implemented in collaboration with the Urban Planning Research Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens.
