Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Mykonos
Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan of Mykonos
The Municipality of Mykonos is in the implementation phase of the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan (SUMP) for the island, focusing on promoting walking and public transportation to reduce traffic congestion, pollution, and noise.
Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans are Strategic Plans that set strategic goals and required actions regarding the desired evolution and organization of the citizens’ mobility system and the freight transport/distribution network.
The goal is to improve accessibility, safety, environmental conditions, and efficiency of transport for people and goods. The key difference from the approaches followed by ‘traditional’ traffic studies is the focus on serving the movement of people, rather than serving (mostly motorized) vehicles, in the available island space.
The focus of the plan is the participation of all involved stakeholders, residents, and professionals in collecting opinions and ideas that will respond to improving daily life in terms of mobility within the island for both residents and visitors, promoting sustainable urban mobility. Towards this direction and within the project framework, the Municipality has developed the digital platform of the SUMP and invites citizens to actively participate. Specifically, we invite you to participate in the process by completing specialized questionnaires, submitting the problems you face in your daily life, and sharing your ideas for a better island.
